I am not sure if you were throwing it out there like "this would never happen" or if it was a comparison of some sort. There are far left (they plotted with the Nazis...they created "sacrifices" in order to colonize Palestine) and right (they were a disease on the economy...they were working with foreign sources to bring down the new German government) extremes who do blame Jews for the Holocaust. There are also all those in-between the extremes who find excuses for "somewhat" blaming the Jews for their own deaths (How did so few Germans manage to control so many Jews? Why were Jews so passive and not resist in large numbers?)
As to the premise, I don't think we can lay responsibility of racism and bigotry at the feet of the Republicans either, as sad as it is, it was a collaborative effort of the body politic, the real issue, in my mind, is how many ignore, justify, or even exemplify racism and bigotry from the right/Republican party, in stark contrast to the Democrats. The Democrats are much better than the Republicans in this area, but there are many areas of improvement needed, and many who do not think this is true, which is part of the problem...denial.
