But I see it mainly as an imperfect way to impress on politicians and the press what should be too frikkin obvious - this was not a decisive vote, there's a lot of buyers' remorse out there, Leave have no clue what they're doing or going to do, the process of exiting could extend over a whole agonizing decade of uncertainty, by which time quite a few Leave voters will have gone to join the Choir Invisible and be ex-Leave voters, and if the proportions were the other way round, there's no way hard-line Leavers would accept it as the settled will of the people. That's down to Cameron's idiocy in not setting a bar beyond a bare majority.
Fun fact: The petition was started in May by a rabidly right-wing Leave student to pre-empt his expectation that it might be a close Remain vote.
He's not too happy with the way his petition is panning out ...
