(28,784 posts)but there are some very good studies that do indicate a potential. however, nothing is a miracle... the reason cannabis may provide a treatment for cancer is because it kills off tumor cells by denying them access to cell nutrition - while leaving healthy cells intact.
One guy who has worked in this field all his life did post pictures of people whose tumors shrank - and there's the guy in CA who has an amateur vid - but neither of these rise to the level of scientific evidence via controlled studies.
And it's not just the THC that's involved. CBD, another cannabinoid, has shown some great results for cancer treatment in the human test phase to shrink brain tumors - but those tumors were already lethal. It did shrink them, however, by the process described above.
I don't think anyone would recommend that anyone forgo regular health care treatment.
But maybe Chong, since prostate cancer like his generally goes untreated, is making himself a public test subject. I'm sure his doctor is keeping track of the progress of the cancer.
