General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: Now we're talking [View all]I've been on DU for 13 years now. I remember DU's beginnings as a self-described "left-wing" message board, welcoming Democrats "and other" people of that left-wing persuasion. While the site has always been partisan, the focus of the TOS as far as partisan requirements go is on campaigns and elections. There has always been an obvious conflict between the two, since the party is clearly NOT left-wing.
Of course, when the party elected a D to the WH in '08, this site left behind being actually "underground" and became a lot more partisan, and a lot more centrist. The term "left-wing" was removed, and replaced with "liberal," which is more inclusive, as centrists, "new dems" and other 3rd wayers are NEO-liberal.
There are still some left-wing people around, and as long as they are not advocating a vote for a 3rd party in an election, they are still welcome.
