Defending herself against Sanders in a primary won't hurt her in the general. She is popular with a lot of Democrats - just not that many of the DU type.
I've been gaming out the possible effects of Bernie mounting a primary challenge ... and one (of many) "interesting" scenarios presents itself: A Bernie run actually strengthens HRC's hand among Democrats AND moderate Independents; but a lot of this depends on what the republican field looks like.
