3. I think you may be underestimating what the rePIGs will say and do

For one thing if they win, they will interpret it as mandate to go slashing regulations and budget at the federal level.
Secondly, when things take a turn for the worse, they will re-frame their message to say that not enough budget cutting has been done to heal the economy. In fact they will always be looking for more reasons to heap hardship on the poor and minorities in their quest to cure them of any atom of reliance on any government support/help. So I don't see them backing down at all and the voting public is so easily swayed that they always buy the rePIG lies anyway. The only exception is when Dems truly fight back by leaning left rather than go with the BS blue-dog/DLC/New Dem crap.
