In reply to the discussion: There is no "I" in "Obama". The self deprecating self confidence and calm of Obama is unearthly. [View all]cilla4progress
(24,951 posts)...for a man, an African-American man, in 21st century US to even DEIGN to CONSIDER running for the highest political post in the land takes a degree of vision and chutzpah, that in itself, sets him apart. Even if it is the vision of a megalomaniac, I can see common threads with the actions of the others I listed - in believing that he would have the ability to succeed in that one endeavor.
All those others - the HISTORICAL Jesus (that is, a man who challenged the status quo establishment power balance in his time, giving his life for it), MLK, etc., were also change agents of the highest magnitude. They were imperfect. They succeeded in some measure, but obviously not all, and compromised their principles along the way to achieve their higher aims. Unfortunately, a reality in the power game.
I see Obama as one of their ilk.
