(11,175 posts)Using Wikipedia, duckduckgo, the hint taterguy dropped, and what I know from having lived in the area:
Pete Chilcutt was a professional basketball player. Although taterguy considers him forgettable, he did play on the Houston Rockets team that won the NBA championship for the 1994-95 season. He has a championship ring, a bauble that many undeniably unforgettable players lack.
He played his college ball at UNC-Chapel Hill. Visart was a small chain of video stores in North Carolina. One of their stores was in Carrboro, the next town over from Chapel Hill, although it closed a few years ago. The store, that is, not the town.
We may speculate that, when Chilcutt was a callow collegian, there was some sort of incident at the store that generated ill will. Chilcutt may have been at fault. Alternatively, he may have been wrongfully blamed when, for example, an argument about Kurosawa got a little too heated and some inebriated patron took a swing at him.
After retiring from the NBA, Chilcutt became a sixth-grade math and science teacher in California. Teachers have it tough enough these days, so let us not pry too deeply into what may have happened on that dark day in Carrboro.
