A field and a wooded copse behind my house of about three acres has been a home to hawks, owls, quail, jack rabbits, a variety of rodent species, deer, and any number of other bird species, monarch butterflies and others, as well as visiting predators like coyotes and bob cats. Three months ago new owners came in and cut down most of the trees, which were home to many of the residents. Then they dug up most of the ground leaving mounds of dry dust and uprooted plants in the tractor's wake. They are building a home.

Goodby old neighbors. I'm very sad. I guess welcome to my new human ones complete with kids and dogs.
