(62,325 posts)down, plus every member of the military, takes an oath to do one thing, 'defend and protect the Constitution of the US against all enemies, both foreign and domestic'.
There was a reason why the oath did not mention 'my party right or wrong' or 'the American people' or 'the President of the US' or 'my Homeland'.
We have witnessed elected officials violate their oaths of office with no consequences and we have witnessed those who try to abide by their oaths, imprisoned and tortured.
The people have a duty to hold their elected officials accountable. We have failed to do that for a long time.
I agree with the OP, I support the Constitution until something better comes along and understand perfectly WHY this is the only duty required of our military personnel and our public officials.
