Even if all these messages were from GOP supporters, their outrage is mainly based on the fact that suddenly, they are holding the sticky end of a stick. The voting public has a notoriously bad memory, so except in a few cases I'm sure it will be back to the Republican catechism sooner or later.
But it's nice to see his own people calling this useless piece of protoplasm exactly what he is. For a change.
