Long enough to develop a fierce aversion to many on the top rung of the ladder for the way they treated people less elevated.
But everyone except the jerks LOVED Ed Asner, and so did I even though sadly I never got to meet him in person. But people said he was every bit as nice as Tom Snyder whom I did get to know a little.
If anyone's in touch with Ed, please let him know about this thread. He deserves to see it. And if any jerks show up, I don't know what I'll do but it won't be pretty.

I met him backstage and got his autograph in Detroit...Max Fisher Theatre...circa 1979...
