31. Then what's the point? I just can't grasp this logic, so it must be me.

Basically we are supposed to believe that the Dems are offering cuts to a program that had nothing to do with the deficit in the first place, and the doesn't even belong to them to begin with, that is OUR fund, because they know the Repubs will refuse anything the President offers???

Did I get that right? We ARE talking about important business here, we are talking about issues that affect millions of Americans.

So can you enlighten me as to why our top elected officials would be playing games rather than seriously dealing with these important issues? I must be stupid, but the logic of this totally escapes me.

Here's what I expected by supporting Democrats for the WH and Congress. I expected to hear one statement from Democrats, in the form of a warning to Republicans regarding the Deficit. Something like this, made very publicly, and repeated as often as possible:

Dear Republicans,

We will be working on reducing the Deficit and we look forward to working with you for the benefit of the American people.

Now, let us make this clear. We will NOT be discussing the Social Security Fund because SS had zero to do with the Deficit. We are sure you are aware of this but just to be sure, let me repeat - Social Security had ZERO to do with the deficit and therefore will not be a part of the the Deficit discussions.

Here are a number of things that DID cause the Deficit.

1) The Bush tax cuts for the wealthy cost this country over two trillion dollars and produced very little, as promised, in return. Outsourcing of jobs was not what was meant by increasing employment. We meant here, in the US.

2) The corruption on Wall St that collapsed the world's economy and which we will be talking about later.

3) The cost of wars that were based on lies have been a major contribution to the Deficit we are now dealing with.

There is more but for now this will give you some material to start thinking about in terms of what we must do to make sure that these costs are eliminated.

And again, so we do not waste any time on distractions, as the American people know, Social Security had nothing, nada, zero to do with the deficit so any mention of it in that context will not be tolerated.

We won, you lost, goodbye!

So tell me, this game you say the president is playing, how exactly does it work? Aside from doing exactly the opposite of what we expected, making sure that Democrats do not feed the lie that SS had anything to do with the deficit, what is the goal of risking furthering the Republican lie that SS was in some way responsible for the deficit?

I really want to know how this game is supposed to work. But so far, I cannot get anyone to explain it.
