(14,174 posts)I don't recall much furor to get out the vote in 2010. I'm not sure if its even technically possible to come out of the 2014 elections with a majority in the House and Senate, but if it was...does the DLC really want that? As it is, the "third way" Democrats that rule the roost seem content to play the Good Cop to the Republicans Bad Cop. Because in the end, they are both working to protect and serve the 1% above all else. The only difference is that the Good Cop will also throw in coffee and maybe a sandwich and speak more calm and rationally about fair treatment for everyone.
If a Democrat is in the White House AND he has a majority of both Senate and House there are no excuses left to give to their base. They may even have to address issues raised by the "fucking retarded" liberal wing. *gasp*!.......much to the detriment of their carefully crafted (hands off) relationships with Wall Street.
The 2010 elections were to me noticeable only in there un-noticeability. Sure it was the fault of Democratic voters not showing up, but there didn't seem to be much urgency given off by the leadership. There was no inspirational call to arms from President Obama. All I saw was the major networks showing predictions of an increase in GOP seats and not much argument from the Democrats about it, not much of a sense of urgency from the DLC. They seemed resigned to it, and so it gave off the impression of why-even-try to their base. I will wait to see if it is any different this time around.
I hope its all just a wild conspiracy theory, but either way, I agree with the OP. In that its so important to give Obama no excuses. To hand him the political capital whether he and the DLC wants it or not, and also as a final statement to the Baggers, Fundies, and Faux News Freepers to shut the hell up and stop claiming that you represent the 'real' America.
