(8,317 posts)The idea of "privilege" is so amorphic, without rules or guidelines, that people are using it any way they want, as a point to say all white people have more privileges then those of color, as a bludgeon to shut others up, as a point system to see who has more "non-privilege" then others so they win the "I get to tell anyone to shut the fuck up prize."
It seems more like a nail to drive people apart then to bring them together. (Going into Meta is a perfect example of the above paragraph)
I think someone said:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
"privilege" pointing, it seems to me, is all about pointing out the color of skin, sex and handicaps of others. (At least, in some areas of the web, that's what is has become)
