(51,666 posts)28. I think these giant pods are fairly common here. I saw
one about 20 years ago off the SoCal coast. I took a boat trip out to Anacapa Island (one of the Channel Islands).
On the way out, the boat was surrounded by them as far as the eye could see. Some of them were clearly enjoying themselves racing the boat and darting in from of it.
When we got to the island and were walking around on top where you have such great views all around, you could see that same absolutely gigantic pod of dolphins circling the island clockwise, and it had to be hundreds of thousands of them. A truly remarkable sight.
