(12,160 posts)I was in shock but the kind that allows one to go about business. I work for Verizon and knew that besides the destruction of property and life there must be massive damage to the telecommunications center in the financial heart of the country. So even though 2,000 miles away I went to work.
It wasn't until Thursday afternoon that the other shoe fell-literally it was a spare tire in the bed of my truck that fell over. It so startled me-I thought it was an explosion. I sat an shook with fear.
Now as to who I thought was responsible for this heinous act; my father was a psychologist who analysed the propaganda of Soviet and Latin American sources. He also had a gift for creating believable propaganda. Now some of his analytical gift rubbed off on me although I am weak at creating.
And so, I recognized the handiwork of propagandist- Although I believe that the phy-ops people of Dad's era would have taken everyone in, the Bush/Cheney team were quite good. They used the angst, anger and fear to get the drum beat going to war with an "enemy" of their choosing. The were helped by the fact that many Americans are ignorant of the issues, culture and geography of the world that lies outside their locale.
I don't blame my fellow citizens for supporting the war on Iraq- The blame lies with the neo-Con terrorists who slyly used truth mixed with lies to dupe the nation into acts of mass murder.
