Local Democrats packing the bar ahead of Markey's arrival included many of the familiar faces that served as the Western Massachusetts ground troops for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren's successful 2012 campaign.

"I'm going to run on my own record and talk about the laws I've been able to help pass," Markey said. "I'm going to lay out my vision for the future of this country by talking about all the issues central to it."
Markey, who drew loud cheers when speaking in support of a federal assault weapons ban, stands on the opposite of Lynch on a number of issues, including abortion rights. While Lynch is pro-life, Markey is pro-choice and not shy about that stance.
