14. As much as I admired Durning as an actor, I respected him even more

for being willing to speak openly about his World War II experiences and how combat traumatized him. That was a brave thing for someone of the "suck it up" generation of vets to do, and it did a lot to help the veterans both of his generation who were still around when he opened up about the war and his emotional pain and the veterans of later conflicts.

At ease, soldier. Duty done. Thanks for your service.
