to get off their sick old asses to exert pressure. I don't mean you, I mean our President and Democrat congresspeople expecting this. I agree that is what they want, I agree that pressure needs to be exerted, but some of the people most at risk from this can't do it and our politicians know that.
We have elderly in my town who exist on SS, who don't have a computer or cable tv or sometimes even the strength to get on a phone to spend hours trying to get through to their reps to say please for god's sake don't let me die by jacking my SS.
Does my president understand how it feels to not be able to work because you are a sick old person, and how it feels to hear that your one safety net which you've put money into your entire working life may have start paying you less? When you are in the worst position you've ever been in, ie you are old and sick and even if you can work, no one wants to hire your old ass to do anything, and so there may be nothing you can do to make up the difference?
Does he know what terror the current high prices at the local grocery store are causing seniors?
For an older person dependent upon social security, esp. old women whose benefits suck, to be disabled or in pain and squeezing every dime and hear that if you don't get your old ass out there exerting pressure you can kiss goodby your medicare and SS is just about the most frightening thing ever to them.
And it is absolutely true - if they don't, its going, and many of them can't get out there to "exert pressure" as the President expects. Who the fuck does this to sick old people? Scaring the wits out of them is simply one of the meanest things I've ever seen any Democrat President do, and something I honestly never thought Obama would do to old people.
Some of them here, old, blind, going deaf, can't walk, hear rumors that they are going to living on less - there isn't a thing they can do in their poor health to protest. They are fucking scared to death.
Sorry for the rant, I am just so fucking angry that anyone, but esp. democrats and Obama, would scare people who are no longer able to provide for themselves or meaningfully get out there to let them know how scared they are and how unfair this would be. A society that does this to their elderly is just cruel.
