In reply to the discussion: Why I had to leave DU and the long journey back. My first post in nine years. [View all]Teacher of the Year
(69 posts)I was a journalist in my old life and throughout my writing on DU, and elsewhere, I have maintained the standards of good journalism (though not of spelling and grammar). Truth. I write my stories in funny ways but they are truth. But I put a filter on myself now. "Would I want my boss or my student's parents to read this?" If the answer is no, I delete it. I put nothing out there that I am not 100% willing to stand behind, using my professional standing and vetted status as an expert in my field.
But that does not mean it is always prudent to speak truthfully to a public audience. Hence the anonymity that keeps us safe. If we can maintain it.
Like I tried to maintain it.
It has not worked well for me. This time, I will be writing as myself. There is enough information in my post to google me up in half a second. All y'all can see my smiling face and I'm good with that. Will it cause trouble in the future? LOL...probably. Do I know I can survive it? Unless its an assassination attempt (don't laugh...sadly, I'm serious), I know I will survive it. So, for me, the mask is off, the gloves are off. I know the deal and it ends up, I'm pretty good at fighting back.
If you remember to write your truth you will be OK. Getting knocked down for saying the truth, means you get to stand back up a little bit taller, and a little bit taller, and a little bit taller.
