If your library has tax forms they may also have information on free help. You could fill out the extension form and then sort things out. Im so sorry that you have had so much trouble.

Scroll down and there is a section on finding free tax prep locally. When you hit the link for free help there is a *Notice posted and under that a button to click to search. You may have to expand the search past 5 miles but then options should appear.

Worst case and assuming you've paid most/all taxes due, file an extension to sort it out.

If you don't traditionally owe and you know what forms you need, it shouldn't be too hard

I tried that mentioned tax service. It cost me almost a year and a half and $1600 for a real accountant to fix.

It might only cost $100 more to use a real accountant. They'll file for an extension and give an est of payment due.

The IRS volunteers are likely overworked. I'm sure they're good, if you have minimal deductions.
