(21,106 posts)Anytime good economic news is posted on DU, the thread is filled with people talking about how horrible everything is. Any time crime is brought up, DUers will talk about how awful crime is in their area and they don't care what the stats say. We are at or near historically low crime rates.
Real wages are up right now from before Covid. That is an actual fact. You cannot post that on DU without people going off with the media narrative that everything is 80% more expensive and wages are not keeping up... When the fact is that "higher real wages" literally means that wages increased more than prices, wages more than kept up with inflation. And that includes rents, food, energy etc. And that literally means that people are doing better now than before Covid.
Rents went down in 2023 and they're down an average of $90 from the peak in 2022, people cannot accept that simple and easily provable fact. Because maybe their rent didn't go down, but maybe their rent stayed the same and they notice higher rents when looking for a new place to live, so they just don't see the bigger picture.
So I don't know what to do anymore. Many Democrats here think that the country is in awful shape and all the data and facts to the contrary won't change their minds.
The media has been relentless, it's like a barinwashing that's going on in regards to the Biden economy. Even the big paycheck to paycheck article that got several threads here the other week, "62% of housseholds say they're living paycheck to paycheck!!!" That sounds awful right? 3 out of every 5 househols say they're living paycheck to paycheck sounds like a bad thing. And it's not an ideal situation for sure, but when you do a little digging, the number was 80% in 2019, before Covid, when Trump claimed the economy was great. I posted those links that showed that and almost no one acknowledged them. Less people are living paycheck to paycheck under Biden than Trump and Biden is getting 0 credit for that.
I fear we are doomed. Biden has one of the most remarkable presidential records in history and you can't even get his own supporters to acknowledge some of his most basic accomplishments on the economy.
