In reply to the discussion: My sit down with a Trump supporter [View all]LAS14
(14,299 posts)I've been frustrated at not being able to get information that puts me inside the heads of Trump supporters. Bottom line, I'm just curious. But at a more productive level, I think we can't move forward unless we can understand, just a little, where they're coming from. The DU rant that they're just evil doesn't help me. Every few weeks there will something on The Newshour where Trump supporters are interviewed. One was particularly illuminating for me. It was with an evangelical pastor who was clearly an educated person. He explained that (in his belieft) God can use evil people to work for good. He had a Bible story example which I had never heard from. The point is, he didn't need to think that Trump wasn't a bad person to vote for him and urge his congregation to vote for him.
Well, anyway. Please keep up your project and report back.
I live in Massachusetts and that may explain why I, personally, don't think I've ever even met a Trump supporter except once. A guy in our building who was of German extraction, born in Argentina (make of that what you will), lamented the "disrespect people are showing our president." This was in 2017 sometime.
