Reagan was a true believer in GOP nonsense--for example he really believed trees were a major source of pollution. Trump appeals to the GOP's desire for a strong leader at any cost-- it's not even clear he believes in the GOP's positions at all. Trumphilia is in-group dynamics at its worst. Trump threatens the existence of the US as a democratic republic.
