Steve Schmidt supporting President Biden's Primary opponent.... [View all]

Dean Phillips....

I was on twitter and saw this post by Nancy Sinatra so I wanted to check out what she was talking about:

"You have lost me Steve.
@SteveSchmidtSES

You broke my heart"

Steve Schmidt, a veteran anti-Trump Republican strategist, is teaming up with President Joe Biden's new Democratic challenger, Representative Dean Phillips, to take down the sitting president in the 2024 election.

Phillips launched his long-shot primary challenge against Biden on Friday after weeks of teasing a potential run, announcing that his "last-minute campaign" would be the only path for Democrats to defeat former President Donald Trump in the general election next year.
Schmidt, who worked on the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and John McCain before denouncing the GOP in 2018 as "fully the party of Trump," will be a close adviser to Phillips on his campaign. The announcement comes nearly four years after Schmidt helped found the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump group that raised nearly $100 million to get Biden elected in 2020. He left the PAC in 2021.

"I am joining Dean Phillips in this urgent moment of political crisis because we must try to make campaigns big and inspiring again," Schmidt wrote in a Friday blog post. "We must try and bring some nobility, decency and inspiration back into the business of politics. We must engage young people, and meet every American where they are. We must talk about the real issues that people in the country are facing. I'm going to do my utmost to help him do it."

Schmidt said while he "deeply admires" Biden and would support him should he win the 2024 Democratic nomination over Phillips, he believes Biden is on track to lose against Trump.

"I have made many predictions over the last seven years," Schmidt said. "Donald Trump credited me with being the very first person on American television to see that he could win, was winning and would win the Republican nomination."

"[The extremist movement] has a leader, and he is going to be the Republican nominee. I wish that were not true," he wrote. "If the election was tomorrow the simple truth is: President Biden would lose."
Schmidt said he was joining Phillips' campaign for two reasons—because Phillips will "talk about some very important things that have not been talked about in a long time" and because "Biden may be the only Democrat who could run for president who will lose to Donald Trump."

Schmidt said he was joining Phillips' campaign for two reasons—because Phillips will "talk about some very important things that have not been talked about in a long time" and because "Biden may be the only Democrat who could run for president who will lose to Donald Trump."

In a statement announcing his presidential bid, the Minnesota congressman said his campaign would be about the economy, safety, generational change and "listening to each other to get back to a less divisive political environment."

Phillips has made several media appearances leading up to his campaign launch, expressing his view that another, younger Democrat had to run against 80-year-old Biden, pointing to polls that consistently show that voters want more options.

Two-thirds of Democrat-leaning voters say that the party should not nominate Biden for a second term, with more than 80 percent of those voters saying they want "just someone besides Joe Biden," according to a CNN poll released last month.

The overwhelming majority of Americans do not want to see a rematch between President Biden and the convicted sex abuser and accused felon, who incited the end of the peaceful transition of power," Schmidt said. "There is an overwhelming majority of Americans and substantial number of Democrats who do not want President Biden to run again.""They deserve a choice, and they will have one," he said.
