People just don't get this guy ... he is a Kennedy era liberal; he understands big city 'hardball' politics; and he really is a patriot.

Matthews is always looking for the dramatic, the big play, the emotional persuasion ... and he isn't restrained in his effusive opinions and language. This is why he is such an interesting 'pundit', in my opinion.

Folks here at DU take him too seriously sometime and pounce on anything he says that deviates from the ideological progressive/Democratic line.

Just take Matthews for what he is and enjoy the entertainment value --- he is on our side, you know.
