(847 posts)Weve lived here since 1990. Our yard backs up to the Little League field and tracks are right past the field and a road. Believe it or not weve gotten use to the noise. Sometimes when we are outside the horn blowing gets rather loud. We live in a small town in western Tennessee and the tracks run through it. The weather was really nice today and we were sitting on the porch. I just happen to say to my hubby that we were sitting ducks if there was a derailment. We both grew up near the tracks. When I was a kid in the 50s there were 3 passenger trains that ran through the town. There was trains 35, 36 and a nighttime train called the Tennessean. I grew up on a farm and we chopped and picked cotton. We knew it was lunchtime when we heard the 36 whistle. I did get to ride from Memphis on one of the trains. I was little and barely remember it. If I remember correctly the passenger trains stopped running in the 60s. Its all freight now. Mostly containers or trains carrying coal.
