(12,262 posts)how the Taliban is mapping out its government.
Meanwhile, abortion has been made de facto illegal in Texas.
I am guilty of using nothing but rhetoric about it, too. I haven't taken any actions beyond posting and feeling outraged.
I thought that something like what Texas has done would create a mass uprising -- what use is there for having a government if its purpose is to beat women into submission?
Now that I think about it, I suppose that's what Texas has in common with media coverage of the Taliban; it's easier for us to fret over women and girls in a far off place than do anything about American women and families who are about to be brought to financial ruin because they dare to engage in family planning. Anyone involved in providing an abortion or seeking one out is at risk of being sued by any Texan. It doesn't matter if a case has merit or not. It will be expensive to defend, and most people will not have the means.
There will be a barefoot and pregnant class if this isn't stopped, beaten into submission by court fees and people who police women's bodies with a religious zeal.
We cannot depend on the Supreme Court to save us. The fix has been in for months. I don't know what to do to help.
