Former Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday defended his role in certifying the results of the 2020 election, saying he was proud of what he did on Jan. 6 and declaring that there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.
----
Now there are those in our party who believe that, in my position as presiding officer over the joint session, that I possessed the authority to reject or return electoral votes certified by the states, he said. But the Constitution provides the vice president with no such authority before the joint session of Congress
And the truth is, he continued, theres almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone.

Emphasis mine
And in the immediate future, as sure as night follows day...
Mike Pence is about to get cancelled ala Cheney
Trump will issue a rant
Tucker will call for extreme measures
All of the 2024 wannabees will move further to the right in their outrage...
And for everyone else - far too little far too late... after supporting the systematic dismantling of democrat norms for four years, get the hell outta here.

Pence is like the father who brags that he takes care of his kids. He is SUPPOSED to do his duty.

Overturning election results is indeed un-American, but it is also mainstream Republican.
