(9,069 posts)Healthcare workers are essential workers (they include younger than 65 and some will have one or more co-morbidities).
Every group listed outside of the age group is made up of essential workers in various fields.
Most of the information below is in addition to their vaccination groups for previous and ongoing phases that are in progress or are soon to be.
Idaho:

Maine: This is the only state I could find that has an actual age based plan and they give their very specific reasons for it in detail at the link below.
The planned schedule, which is subject to change depending on fluctuations in vaccine supply including an acceleration if supply increases, is as follows:
March 3: Eligibility expands to residents age 60 and older
April: Eligibility expands to age 50 and older
May: Eligibility expands to age 40 and older
June: Eligibility expands to age 30 and older
July and beyond: Ages 29 and under, including children pending authorization of a vaccine for them

New York: Lists Essential and Younger w/ conditions
New York is currently vaccinating Phase 1a and Phase 1b groups.
This list is long and includes numerous vocations including essential workers, most of which are public facing.

P-12 Schools - staff, teachers, etc
Public facing grocery workers
Restaurant workers and delivery drivers
16 and older with underlying issues (list given)

North Carolina: They don't detail their groups like other states.
1) Healthcare sector (essential workers are also healthcare workers)
2) 65+
3) frontline essential workers
4) adults at high risk exposure or increased risk of serious illness
5) everyone else.
This is sort of how every state has it laid out but many states have been changing things around based on various factors. Most states are adding groups as the vaccines ramp up and the logistics stabilize.
Oregon: Lists Essential and specific younger people w/ conditions.
Phase1a Groups 1-4 was healthcare workers in numerous fields and adults or children w/ disabilities or medical conditions that require in-home care
Phase 1b Groups 1-4 is childcare workers, K-12 workers, 70+
Group 5 starts March 1st 65+
3 weeks later:
Group 6 starts March 29th Adults 45 to 64 with underlying issues, migrant, seasonal farm workers, seafood and agricultural workers, food processing, seniors in low income, congregate, independent living situations

Most of these states have several other groups included with the 65+ . The reason they are bumping them up is because of their risk and because they are getting more vaccines. You might see new groups get bumped up or even pushed back with the J&J vaccine for instance but the are also giving out more vaccines so everything will move quicker.
Many states have added additional groups when solid information about the number of vaccines becomes available.
