We can't disappear the last 4-5 years with a magic erasure, not after all the damage. The Trumpists are still in our midst and will attempt to regain power, by hook or by crook. We as Democrats need to hold the line. We need to make sure everyone remembers how important pushing back is through our vote at the local, state and national level. The effort is to prevent Trump and his minions from taking up the reins of power again. Which IMHO would prove fatal to the country. We dodged a bullet this time. I wouldn't bet money on a second round.
What will help dampen Trumpy headlines is Biden's agenda and Building Back Better policies to take root, start making American lives better--getting a handle on Covid (vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate); providing American families with relief in their daily lives by reducing food, rent, healthcare anxiety; improving the economy and employment opportunities; getting our schools reopened; ensuring the security and expansion of our voting franchise, etc.
Once some semblance of normalcy returns, institutions are shored up and faith in our governing system is restored, then we can turn our backs on Trump, an old, embittered but toothless foe to democratic principles.
Until then, he remains the troll under the bridge who through enablers and militant supporters tried to set the countryside afire, threatens to do it again.
It's an ugly but important reminder of how close we came, how close we could come again if we don't stay vigilant.
