(79 posts)I agree with you that the ads would have no impact on the Trump cult. I don't think that focusing on state politicians is a winning strategy for beating Trump in the presidential race. The former Republican governor of Kentucky did just the opposite and lost: He focused on Trump and national issues instead of state issues, expecting that the Trump base would re-elect him. Instead, his Democratic opponent ran on issues directly affecting the state, and he won.
I hope Kentucky voters will unseat McConnell and South Carolina voters will defeat Graham. That is a longshot hope, however. I live in Kentucky and will vote for a Democrat to beat McConnell, but while Mitch obstructs things on the national stage, he brags about his success in bringing money to Kentucky when he's in Kentucky, pumping misinformation to Kentucky voters. If Democrats want to unseat Mitch, it won't be by focusing on what he does for Trump, it will have to be by somehow convincing voters that he isn't as good for Kentucky as he boasts he is.
And a focus on McConnell, in my opinion, won't help defeat Trump in a national election.
