(11,764 posts)There was a time when the news was "mainstream" and everyone basically got the same story so that people from the different perspectives could discuss the interpretation, but since the emergence of a consolidated right wing media ecosystem, a whole segment of the population either hears nothing or hears significant spin about the shared reality. Case in point, Donald Trump. How anyone can believe that he has done anything good for the country is beyond me but if you are hearing what a terrific job he is doing and how the "liberal media" and "fake news" is trying to tear him down, then you are pretty much inoculated from getting any actual facts and trusting them.
There is always a concern of this happening from the left, but there is NOTHING like a consolidated media ecosystem on the left to sustain it. We have mainstream/corporate media, independent media, left leaning and left wing media (tiny) and the right wing media system consisting of Fox News, Sinclair Broadcasting, and other affiliate sources like Breitbart, NewsMax, Drudge, etc... not to mention the thousands of radio stations that send out Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, and their ilk.
Then they want "balance". It is bull crap. They want total media dominance.
