45. They also own education in many areas.

Education is the key to getting people to understand what’s real and what is just madeup crap to support the Republican Party. The Republican Party began their campaign to become the party of permanent rule years ago, starting with local takeover of school boards, mayors, and state legislatures. Using propaganda to create racism and resentment toward poor people and nonwhites—all lazy and undeserving of state and federal tax money in any form—they gained control of many states and gerrymandered the hell out of them.

They took over state boards of education and suddenly we’re teaching creationism instead of evolution. We’re teaching the use of natural resources for the betterment of mankind rather than the rape of the environment and climate change. We’ve changed sex education to abstinence only programs that are just Christian dogma. We’re teaching mostly the achievements of white people (the majority of them men) in building this country. We’re teaching that slavery wasn’t so bad because their owners fed and clothed them, and one history book even avoided the word slave, calling them instead immigrants who came to this country for work. We’re not teaching civics or economics in most states. What has replaced those topics is the necessity of unrestrained free market capitalism to provide jobs and success. And we’re teaching that the US is the most exceptional country on the planet, so just stick with those Republicans and the glory days will last forever.

I wish I had a magic wand to change these things. We can only keep trying, but it is discouraging these days.
