Hey, I'm not a rocket scientist, but even I, just your average old white lady, would never EVER go there. There are so many better ways of teaching about slavery. Slavery didn't just exist in the US. We could go back to the Roman empire, the Greek empire, the Persian empire, the Chinese empires, all of which tolerated the institution of slavery.

We could talk about how the French and English abolished slavery in the early 19th C well before our own civil war. We could talk about slavery as a lifelong theft of labor. That might get thinks about low wages as another form of wage slavery. I'm sure DUers could find myriad ways to teach kids about the pernicious institution of slavery.
