(10,966 posts)45. They call DU Site Voldemort -- why:

JPR has a rule not to talk about DU because in the beginning, that was almost all they talked about (still do of course), and the admins wanted to focus more on "progressive" causes and purity and all that. Anyway, to get around the rule, people began to refer to DU indirectly as SV or S.V. - meaning Site Voldemort, the site that shall not be named. This comes from:
Lord Voldemort ... Nearly every witch or wizard dares not utter his unmentionable name, and refers to him instead with such expressions as "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" or "the Dark Lord".

Lord Voldemort is the arch-villain in the Harry Potter books.
Something I read there, a variant of this has been posted there a few times (at least).
I read there occasionally for amusement at what kooky things they come up with. I don't think most are right-wingers, but rather the kind of ding-dongs that vote for Nader and Jill Stein (there was actually a poll before the 2016 general election on how people would vote -- the results were that the vast majority would vote for Jill Stein, but a few would write in Bernie. There were no votes for Hillary, I think maybe that would get them kicked off the site.
EDITED TO ADD: Jim Lane disagrees with me about the poll and he could very well be right. As well as disagreeing with me that saying one would vote for or supporting Hillary is an automatic boot, given that he has had personal experience in doing so, and I have no reason to doubt his credibility -- https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=11249648

Being the "anti-DU website" doesn't seem to be a sustainable model for long-term viability.

JPR hosted a thread where posters pledged not to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Privately owned websites aren't bound by the First Amendment; they set their own rules.

Wading through all the obfuscation, I see that you were fine with voting against Hillary in the GE.

They definitely think we're evil. It's a hate site that considers DU a hate site.

I think some have been re-infiltrating DU under new names. Way too many Debbie Downers...

What does "SV" mean as it's used over there. It appears to be a pejorative nickname for DU...
