Refugees have the right to apply for asylum and remain in the United States pending the outcome of that application – absent punitive measures against them, such as taking from them their children.

The Trump ‘administration’ is doing this as a ‘deterrent’ to refugees coming to the United States; Sessions believes – incorrectly – that refugees won’t attempt to enter the country if there’s a possibility of losing their children.
