(7,805 posts)This is the real story ....
I know, be a use I had a scholarship chance at Candy, for BB; but hurt myself (had to red-shirt 1 year) and thr Alumni got me a job at the Pizza Hut that was across the street from Pizza Inn, where we were next to General care Corp's "Judy's"
It wasn't Dave who came up with the idea...
Dave Thomas managed fried chicken places that were failing, so he turned them into KFC.
He had an Assistant Manager who came up with the briluant idea on how to beat McD's and Burger King by non-frozen hamburgers (hot n juicy).
The guy had a daughter named Judy's.
When Wendy's exploded, Judy's owner proved it was his idea; and Nashvile Tenn General Care Corp backed the Judy's chain.
Problem was - doesn't matter who "thought" up or "created" the idea; because the issue at hand was who "owned" the rights.
The 1st one was Judy's and the "creator" owned 60% of the profits and 90% of that first entity funded by Dave.
However, Dave gave the greedy Judy's guy a hook, baited with "fine print" - that gave away the house on every restaurant after the 1st one.
General Care Corp was right, Dave Thomas was not the inventor of the meat chili, non-frozen hamburger (delivered fresh daily).
But General Care Corp was 100% Wrong, on who owned the rights to a certain method of marketing. They could have competed, with Wendy's had the "inventor" showed General Care Corp the whole set of facts, about selling his rights away.
Instead, General Care Corp had to shut down 100 Judy's and pay $10 million for infringement.
Now, if you want to hear an even bigger deal, ask me about "L.A.S.E.R."
Just sayin..
