He was already on scene. Experience tell us that the sooner youngake armed resistance to the shooter the sooner you stop them. So the person assigned to that school had one job and one job only- move to the sound of the shooting, find the shooter, kill him.
That was his job at that moment, and nothing else.
For those saying he couldnt do anything with just a pistol- had this been outdoors where there was distance between them, maybe so. But indoors at ranges of 50-75 feet or less it isnt a big disparity. In those situations it wont matter who has the pistol or rifle, it only matters who can hit who first. Training and skill will determine that along with a bit of luck, so he had no excuse on that front.
He was not deserving of the trust the pubic and the students placed in him in that position.
