867-5309.'s JournalBiden could wipe out 30 million student-loan borrowers' debt loads with $50,000 in relief
"Any bit of student-loan relief would help borrowers. But new data found that the more forgiveness, the better.
On Tuesday, an analysis prepared for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and obtained by Insider found that if President Joe Biden fulfilled his campaign pledge to cancel $10,000 in student debt for every federal borrower, 32%, or 13 million borrowers, would see their debt balances turn to zero.
And with every $10,000 increment, the share of borrowers affected would only increase: $30,000 in relief would zero out balances for 24 million borrowers, and $50,000 in relief an amount Warren and many of her Democratic colleagues have pushed for would wipe out total debt balances for 76% of borrowers, or 30 million people..."

Let's do it!
Prior to Roe v. Wade, 30 states prohibited abortion ***without exception***
"Prior to Roe v. Wade, 30 states prohibited abortion without exception, 16 states banned abortion except in certain special circumstances (e.g., rape, incest, health threat to mother), 3 states allowed residents to obtain abortions, and New York allowed abortions generally."

That is a terrifying prospect.
Joe seems to be taking a measured approach to the Roe v Wade happenings
Q Mr. President, should the Senate do away with the filibuster to codify Roe?THE PRESIDENT: Im not Im not prepared to make those judgments now about but, you know, I think the codification of Roe makes a lot of sense...
It seems to me he's keeping options open, not closing the door on doing away with the filibuster to codify Roe.
Q Do changes need to be made to the Court in light of this, if this decision holds?
THE PRESIDENT: We have to choose I mean, look, one of the reasons why I voted against a number of the members of the Court: They refuse to acknowledge that theres a 9th Amendment. They refuse to acknowledge theres a right to privacy.
I thought this question might have alluded to expanding the court. Yet that's too long a process fraught with uncertainties.
There's a steady hand at the wheel, imo.

Susan Collins is concerned that Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are "inconsistent"
Maine Senator Susan Collins has released a statement on the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion to vote to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
Collins said:
If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office. Obviously, we wont know each Justices decision and reasoning until the Supreme Court officially announces its opinion in this case....

Since they lied, you'd vote to impeach, Senator?
Anyone else skeptical of this Roe v Wade story?
A leaked draft opinion? I'm trying to remember of hearing such a thing. Courts hold these things damned close to the vest. But this is somehow gets out?
Smells funny.
Sinema almost walked out on Biden last year in a tense exchange over Build Back Better
...During a meeting with Democratic moderates, Biden revealed that Sinema had set her Build Back Better spending limit at $1.1 trillion roughly one-third less than Sen. Joe Manchin's $1.5 trillion price tag.Sinema appeared "visibly angry" at Biden for revealing details from their personal talks, Burns and Martin write. Biden aides had "feared that if Sinema drew a public red line at $1.1 trilliona miserly sum by liberal standardsthen the party would erupt in open war."
The authors wrote: "'Mr. President," she said, 'that was a private conversation.' Sinema began to stand up. She asked Biden: 'Do you want me to leave?'"
The president rushed to soothe tensions with the holdout. "If Biden resented her theatrics, he did not say so in the moment," Burns and Martin write. "He could not afford to lose her vote."...

Kind of wish she had. That would have put one more nail in the coffin of her career as a "Democrat".
AOC to those who paid off student loans: 'We can support things we we won't directly benefit from'
..."Maybe student loan forgiveness doesn't impact you," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in an Instagram story, in response to a question on the benefits of debt cancellation for those who already paid off their loans. "That doesn't make it bad. I am sure there are certainly other things that student loan borrowers' taxes pay for. We can do good things and reject the scarcity mindset that says doing something good for someone else comes at the cost of something for ourselves."...But most Democrats want to see Biden enact broad student-loan relief for everyone, free of thresholds.
"Instead of continuously extending the pause under pressure," New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman recently tweeted, "he needs to cancel all student loan debt."...

Ukraine minister accuses Russia of stealing 'several hundred thousands tonnes' of grain
https://twitter.com/MFA_Ukraine/status/1519953879353413632President Biden changing mind on student loan forgiveness 'is a tremendous victory,' Rep. Pressley
"..."All we know is that the President has expressed an openness to to cancel some debt... that in its in and of itself, is a tremendous victory," Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) told Yahoo Finance in an exclusive interview (video above), later adding: "Any relief that we can provide people in the midst of unprecedented economic hardship as we begin to round the corner and head into a recovery from this pandemic induced recession would make a difference."
Pressley, alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) have repeatedly called on Biden to cancel $50,000 in student loan debt immediately via executive order on the premise that there is sufficient legal backing for the administration to do so.
"This is about the president keeping his word," Pressley stressed. "He has the authority, and I think he has a mandate from this electorate... this is about being responsive to the multi-generational, multiracial coalition, which decisively elected him."...

A Russian naval base is defended by dolphins
Russia's military is using specially trained dolphins to defend a critical naval base off Crimea, according to an analysis published by U.S. Naval Institute News.
Submarine analyst H I Sutton wrote this week for the online news and analysis outlet which is editorially independent from the nonprofit USNI that satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies shows two dolphin pens at the entrance to Sevastopol's harbor, the Russian navy's "most significant" naval base in the Black Sea. He said the pens were moved there in February, around the time that Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Maxar News Bureau confirmed to NPR that it agrees with that analysis. The firm also provided new satellite images, taken on Friday and showing a closer view of dolphin pens in the water at the entrance to the bay...
