How Democrats lost the common man.

At almost every state and national convention the Party plays the Fanfare to the Common Man. [link:

| Since FDR and before, the "common man" was the base of the Democratic Party. The textile worker in the South, labor unions of the North, the little guy helped by the peoples Party to survive against the powerful. It was our Party's "base". Today, they are the base of the Republican Party. We need to admit it.

How did we get here?

I recall Lee Atwater and I discussing this over drink at the TallyHo in the late 70's. Democrats had just won taken the SC governor race with Dick Riley? We discussed that the old Democratic coalition in SC had held, barely, but it held. Non-white, white liberal intellectuals, and the "hard scrabble road" vote. Hard scrabble road voters in South Carolina were the white textile worker vote. The old FDR common man.

I recall Atwater saying "we are going to take these guys from you, and we are going to do it with religion". And the way we are going to use religion is abortion. He did. He was instrumental in the creation of the 'Moral Majority" and worked this with Reagan. An atheist running against the most Christian man ever to be President. All with religion and abortion. I think back today on how profound that conversation was.

From there, the growth of the evangelical movement that went from the revival tents to taking over the Southern Baptist Convention. The expansion of cable TV - enabled the mainlining of christian con artists such as Jim Bakker and Pat Robertson -all using the abortion hammer to indoctrinate the "common man"

This is not about abortion rights. No retreat from this This is about countering the ant-abortion message to either regain or marginalize the now Republican Party common man base.

Make no mistake. The Democratic Party is no longer the Party of the common man. We lost them. Face it. With the worst President in history, corrupt, racists, sexists, controlled by a foreign government, destroyer of our climate and economic policies and responsible for the death THE DEATH OF over 400,000 Americans, he would have been re-elected but for around 45,000 votes. All because of the hard scrabble road/common man vote, voted Republican. And without them the math to 51 % is difficult. It means that the non-white vote and white liberal intellectuals have to do it. The numbers do not work. So somehow, someway we have to carve out a segment of the old "common man" vote to win. We thought it was white women. It was not.

For those who want to celebrate our victory in November and listen to the fanfare to the common man over a glass of wine, go ahead. But understand the that "all glory is fleeting". Unless we solve this problem. It will be gone.

This has never been about Trump.

It should now be abundantly clear that the Republican Party before Trump and after Trump is evil, corrupt, racist, sexists and devoid of Christian values. This has never been about Trump. Stop talking about Trump and start confronting the true enemy of our country and our way of life.

1. Go after their corporate donors - meet with Koch
2. Go after the corporate advertisers of their media enablers
3. Go after the church christian con artist exposing them for what they are
4. Be on every right wing talk show challenging their propaganda
5. Hold on-line webinars promoting the Democratic Party
6. Explain that no one likes abortion but why abortion should not be banned
7. Attack racism at every level and in any form
8. Expose Republican corruption and promote honesty oaths by all elected officials (Republicans will not sign)
9. Point to Republican racist opposition to immigration law reform as the reason for illegal immigration
10. Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs and take credit for it.

If racist leave the Republican Party they are then back to Goldwater Repubs

In 1964, after the crushing defeat of Goldwater, Republicans actively embraced the yellow dog racists Democrats who abandoned the Democratic Party over the voting rights and civil rights acts. The Party of Lincoln was now the Party of bubba. Without Bubba, no Republican President would have been elected in the last 60 years. They thought they could control them but at long last these vile people turned on their "masters" and took over the Grand Ole Party. Now they are threatening to form a new Party setting the Republicans back to the mid 60's. Ironic isn't. The Party of Lincoln betrayed by the South.

Republican Senators and House members have lost control of their Party. Ignore them.

And this includes Trump. The Proud Boys and other white supremist who have controlled the Republican Party since the 60's have now pushed aside these minions who they have used for years as the front for their evil. They have now taken center stage showing the world who the true leaders of the Republican Party are. Negotiations and/or opposition to them is required. Stop dealing with their sycophant's in the House and Senate.

Trump is no longer necessary as a leader of these militants

They were formed long before Trump. Have there own command and control and communications network and are planning more violence before and at the inauguration. They are emboldened by their success on the 6th and bent on the overthrow of our government. Trump was the catalyst and trigger. But no longer necessary. There goals are to take over and rule America by force. Only force will stop them now.

Why are so many surprised that the Republicans tried a coup?

The modern Republican Party came to power with Nixon embracing Southern white racists disappointed that the South lost the civil war. Nurtured and expanded by Ronald Reagan whose main political rallying cry was that "Government is not the solution. Government is the problem." Embraced by the Tea Party who wanted to gut government by eliminating government funding. Galvanized with Gingrich's Contract With(On) America bringing in the open practice of demonizing Democrats. Militarized by the NRA's "cold dead hands" promotion of well armed paramilitary that have the right to overthrow any majority government with whom they disagree. And lastly Trump. Embodying all that is and will forever be the Republican Party. Yet there is surprised that they attempted a violent coup.

But you can still hear those that ask "What has happened to the Republican Party?". " Heard some Republican Senators are thinking about opposing Trump". "Did you hear that Republican's resigned(two weeks before they are to be fired) in protest over Trump."

What?

Sorry news media, surprised now ex-Republicans and their sympathizers. The Republican Party is and has always been evil. Evil must be confronted and vanquished. For too long, too many have looked the other way and not stood up to their anti-American and anti-democratic dogma and actions. Stop acting surprised. Start confronting these monsters with words and non-violent deeds. And stop implying they are anything but what they are - evil.
