Published 24 mins ago on May 7, 2020By Matthew Chapman
On Thursday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) blasted Attorney General William Barrs decision to drop charges against President Donald Trumps former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn as outrageous.
Nadler vowed that he would bring Barr before Congress and demand answers on the Flynn decision, as quickly as the COVID-19 pandemic and its logistical challenges would allow.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Shelby County Election Commission wants new machines for voters to use by the local August elections and the national elections in November. They have a budget of around $10 million to buy the machines.
However, critics have questioned the process for selecting a bid, calling it secretive.
A group of local and national advocates and stakeholders came together Tuesday night in a virtual meeting to discuss the issue in a forum called Lifting The Veil On Shelby County Elections. They want to see and examine the bids for new voting machines being considered by the election commission.
However, officials so far have not released the information and promised to speak in code at a meeting about it Thursday evening.

Hospitals and physicians around the country are sharply criticizing the federal government for the uneven and opaque way it is distributing its supply of the Covid-19 drug remdesivir.
The experimental drug received an emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration last week, after preliminary data from a clinical trial showed that it reduced how long it took hospitalized Covid-19 patients to recover. Now, as the drugs producer, Gilead Sciences, tries to ramp up production, the U.S. government is starting to distribute the limited number of vials that arent needed for ongoing research, so that patients can start to see the benefit outside of clinical trials.
About two dozen hospitals are believed to have been chosen to receive the drug so far, but clinicians told STAT it is unclear why some medical centers were chosen to receive coveted doses while others werent and who is making those decisions in the first place.

Pentagon is considering barring recruits from joining the military if they have been hospitalized by the coronavirus unless the person is granted a waiver from the branch they are trying to join, according to reports from CNN and Fox News.
A defense official told CNN that the guidance is being put into place because there is little understanding about the long-term effects of the new virus.

Trumps team has data showing counties with hundreds or thousands more daily COVID-19 cases if they reopen
Published 1 min ago on May 6, 2020By Sarah K. Burris
President Donald Trumps own White House has data showing that there could be hundreds if not thousands of daily COVID cases if they reopen. Still, the president is pushing forward with his decision to put his economy before the lives of Americans.
The Daily Beast reported Wednesday about a study from the PolicyLab at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia that is now in the hands of the coronavirus task force officials. They are working with the team, sources confirmed.
It projects that if officials move too quickly and too aggressively to reopen in mid-May, individual counties could witness hundreds, if not a thousand-plus, more coronavirus cases reported each day by August 1, said the Beast. A mere two weeks more of social distancing, the study projects, could result in substantial progress in keeping infections downwith potentially hundreds of thousands of fewer cases if the projections are conservatively expanded out to all 3,000-plus counties across the country."

Americans are getting a rude awakening for why the US should never be run like a family business: columnist
Published 1 min ago on May 6, 2020By Matthew Chapman
On Wednesday, writing for The Washington Post, columnist Karen Tumulty tore into President Donald Trump for entrusting life or death policy matters to his inept son-in-law.
Whenever a member of the Trump family gets involved with a project, it is always smart to keep an eye out for the grift, wrote Tumulty. We might have hoped that a pandemic that has already cost more than 70,000 Americans their lives would be an exception to this rule. But no. President Trumps decision to again put his unqualified son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in charge of a team charged with a vital national security interest this time, procuring crucial supplies and protective equipment for hospitals and others on the front lines of fighting the coronavirus is producing the usual results: incompetence and cronyism."
