Biden doesn't need to choose a VP who primarily appeals to the same voters he does

I'm puzzled and a little frustrated by those who keep insisting that picking a woman of color in general or Kamala Harris in particular is a bad idea because she won't appeal to voters in the Midwest.

First of all, that's just not true - and would only apply if the only people in the Midwest were white working class voters. But that's not the case. Those states are full of people to whom Harris would appeal, many of whom sat out the last election and aren't too terribly excited about Biden, but would crawl over broken glass to vote for a ticket with her on it. And those are likely the voters that will make the difference in this election.

So, there's that.

Moreover, the electorate is not limited to the Midwest. The same applies across the country. It would be foolish for Biden to select a candidate who appeals only to the same voters who love him. She's already got them - or he will be able to pull them in during the campaign. He needs someone who will capture the hearts and attention of other people and who will inspire them to come out and vote for the ticket. Kamala Harris and every other black female being talked about would do just that.

On President Kennedy's last campaign trip, in Dallas, an aide was said to have told Jackie, "Be sure to wave only to the people on the left side of the car. If you and the President both wave to the same person, that's a waste."

Biden needs a running mate who will wave to the people he can't wave at so they can reach a much larger audience of voters.

I think Klobuchar's announcement wasn't a concession - it was part of a strategic rollout

Amy didn't climb out on a limb that can be easily sawed off under her if Biden doesn't pick a woman if color, thereby making her look like she has no influence. I think her comments were part of a carefully planned rollout by the Biden campaign of an announcement of Harris or another black woman as his running mate.

She's not actually telling Biden what he should do. She's helping to lay the groundwork, frame the narrative, and inoculating him from criticism from white Democrats who might go after him for "playing identity politics" if he picks someone of color.

She's a team player.

Klobuchar asked Biden to take her out of VP pool: "It's time to put a woman of color on the ticket."

She just said on Lawrence O'Donnell a moment ago she called Biden last night and said she no longer wants to be considered.

Black senior State Dept official resigns because of Trump's comments and actions on race

Is the dam breaking?

Top State Department official resigns in protest of Trump’s response to racial tensions in the country

A senior State Department official who has served in the Trump administration since its first day is resigning over President Trump’s recent handling of racial tensions across the country — saying that the president’s actions “cut sharply against my core values and convictions.”

Mary Elizabeth Taylor, the assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs, submitted her resignation on Thursday. Taylor’s five-paragraph resignation letter, obtained by The Washington Post, serves as an indictment of Trump’s stewardship at a time of national unrest from one of the administration’s highest ranking African Americans and an aide who was viewed as both loyal and effective in serving his presidency.

“Moments of upheaval can change you, shift the trajectory of your life, and mold your character. The President’s comments and actions surrounding racial injustice and Black Americans cut sharply against my core values and convictions,” Taylor wrote in her resignation letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “I must follow the dictates of my conscience and resign as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs.”

Taylor, 30, was unanimously confirmed to her position in October 2018 and is the youngest assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs in history and the first black woman to serve in that post.
...
Taylor was viewed as a loyal member of the administration and is a lifelong member of the Republican Party. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Pelosi: "This person is ethically unfit, intellectually unprepared, and personally unqualified"

Full Quote: "This person is ethically unfit, intellectually unprepared, and personally unqualified to be president of the United States."

And while I know physical appearances shouldn't mean much, she said it while looking aweome in a amazingly beautiful cotton candy-colored jacket with a matching pink mask dangling from her neck.

She rocks
