Volume 2 of the FOOLCAST series comes from none other than our own Italian electro prodigy Congorock, but it’s not what you might expect. We listen to all kinds of stuff at FG HQ and want the FOOLCAST to reflect that – so we asked him to put together a mix of some of his punk and hardcore favorites that would show off a different side of his personality and keep things musically unpredictable on the blog.

Says Rocco: Hey brothers, here’s my hardcore punk mix for Fool’s Gold. I wanted to call it “The Furious Years” like something related to the past – its old stuff (nothing after 2003) that I listened to when I was younger. It was total fun working on this because I rediscovered music I didnt remember at all! I put some tracks from my old bands (La Quiete and Death Of Anna Karina), Steve Aoki sings on the This Machine Kills track (his old band), and there’s even a His Hero Is Gone track called “Fool’s Gold”. I hope you like it!

1. Minor Threat "In My Eyes"
2. Husker Du "Real World"
3. Dead Kennedys "Nazi Punks Fuck Off"
4. Fugazi "Do You Like Me"
5. Bad Brains "Pay To Cum"
6. Black Flag "My War"
7. Discharge "Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing"
8. Gorilla Biscuits "Stand Still"
9. Born Against "Shroud"
10. Rhythm Collision "Hippie Now"
11. Doom "Police Bastard"
12. Avail "On The Nod"
13. Acme "Blind"
14. His Hero Is Gone "Scare Tactic / Fool's Gold"
15. Los Crudos "Tiempos De La Miseria"
16. Swing Kids "El Camino Carcrash"
17. Integrity "Systems Overloading"
18. Page 99 "In Love With An Apparition"
19. Cripple Bastards "A Dispetto Della Discrezione"
20. Earth Crisis "Firestorm"
21. This Machine Kills "Take Back The Night"
22. Death Of Anna Karina "The Infection"
23. La Quiete "Il Destino Di Un Ombrello"
24. In/Humanity "Occultonomy"
25. Negazione "Tutti Pazzi"

Joining Crookers and the Bloody Beetroots atop the exploding Italian electro scene, Congorock is one of those DJs who oozes charisma and charm. And perhaps part of his confidence is owed to the fact that he cut his teeth in legendary post-hardcore band La Quiete. Whatever the case, he's paid tribute to his hardcore roots with his new contribution to the Fool's Gold podcast, which can be grabbed here. (link long gone)

As the DJ points out, the tracks remain extremely relevant to the label's club-heavy sound. "I wanted to call it The Furious Years, like something related to the past - it's old stuff (nothing after 2003) that I listened to when I was younger," he says. "I put some tracks from my old bands (La Quiete and Death of Anna Karina), Steve Aoki sings on the This Machine Kills track (his old band), and there's even a His Hero Is Gone track called "Fool's Gold." I hope you like it!"

Still, whether it fits into an A-Trak playlist or not is hardly as important as the fact that it works so well as one cohesive mix of important hardcore tracks spanning '80s forefathers, youth crew, D-beat and '90s post-hardcore. If you're trying to teach a friend that "hardcore" is so much more than that Alexisonfire album they're obsessed with, this is a pretty good place to start.

Here Are All the Ways Republicans Plan to Investigate Biden

House Republicans are preparing a cascade of investigations, some overlapping, into the Biden administration and its policies. Right-wing lawmakers have said the ultimate goal is to impeach the president.

WASHINGTON — With Washington in a state of divided government, newly empowered House Republicans are all but certain to be unable to enact their legislative agenda into law. Instead, they have made it clear that their primary mission in the 118th Congress will be investigating the Biden administration, including inquiries they say could lead to the potential impeachment of President Biden and several cabinet members. Preparing to use their new subpoena power, Republicans have already created three special investigative committees or subcommittees, but they expect to carry out many more inquires under existing committees they now control.

Some of the investigations may involve multiple panels, and top Republicans are jockeying for the biggest and most prominent pieces. While Speaker Kevin McCarthy said last year that he had not yet seen grounds for impeaching Mr. Biden, Republicans have already introduced a host of impeachment articles against the president and members of his cabinet, and some influential members on the right have said they relish the prospect of trying him for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Here is a road map of the investigations:

The ‘Weaponization’ of Government

What committee is involved: A special subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee, led by Representative Jim Jordan, Republican of Ohio.

Substantive policy questions: This remains to be seen. The text of the resolution establishing the subcommittee gives the panel essentially open-ended jurisdiction to scrutinize any issue related to civil liberties or to examine how any agency of the federal government has collected, analyzed and used information about Americans — including “ongoing criminal investigations.” It also gives the subcommittee the authority to obtain classified information typically only provided to the Intelligence Committee, including some of the government’s most protected secrets.

Political agenda: During the 2022 campaign, Republicans promised to use their new power in Congress to scrutinize what they said was a concerted effort by the government to silence and punish conservatives at all levels, from protesters at school board meetings to former President Donald J. Trump. The panel could become a venue for targeting federal workers accused of carrying out a partisan agenda. It could also re-litigate revelations about Mr. Trump’s conduct, including the facts surrounding his effort to overturn the 2020 election or his removal of classified material from the White House, and failure to return it. Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York and the minority leader, called the new panel the “Select Committee on Insurrection Protection.”

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen has been suspended for comparing the Covid vaccine to the Holocaust

Conservative Andrew Bridgen has been stripped of the party whip and faces formal investigation over Twitter post.

https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/23243660.tory-mp-andrew-bridgen-suspended-spreading-covid-misinformation/

A Tory MP has been suspended by the party for spreading misinformation about the Covid vaccine. Andrew Bridgen has had the Conservative Party whip removed after having “crossed a line” in his criticism of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The North West Leicestershire MP has been increasingly vocal in remarks questioning the coronavirus vaccine and quoted someone who told him it was “the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust”. In a Tweet on Wednesday, the MP shared an article on vaccines adding: “As one consultant cardiologist said to me, this is the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust.”

Chief Whip Simon Hart said: “Andrew Bridgen has crossed a line, causing great offence in the process. “As a nation, we should be very proud of what has been achieved through the vaccine programme. The vaccine is the best defence against Covid that we have. “Misinformation about the vaccine causes harm and costs lives. I am therefore removing the whip from Andrew Bridgen with immediate effect, pending a formal investigation.”

Tory MP Michael Fabricant backed the decision to remove the whip from Mr Bridgen over his comments, saying he would have “blood on his hands” if his views had deterred people from getting a vaccine. “If this deters people from being vaccinated and causes deaths as a direct consequence, he’ll have blood on his hands. His tweets are wholly irresponsible.” Holocaust Education Trust chief executive Karen Pollock said Mr Bridgen’s comment was “highly irresponsible and wholly inappropriate”.

Tatjana Patitz, one of the original '90s supermodels, dies at 56

https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/tatjana-patitz-supermodel-death-cec/index.html

Tatjana Patitz, who rose to fashion fame in the '90s as an animal-loving supermodel with a piercing gaze, has died, her agent confirmed to CNN. She was 56. Patitz died Wednesday from breast cancer, her agent Corinne Nicolas told CNN. She's survived by her son, Jonah.

The German-born model appeared on dozens of covers for Vogue and countless other fashion magazines beginning in the 1980s. Her most famous cover, which she shared with fellow supermodels of her generation, inspired George Michael to cast her in his music video for "Freedom! '90."

Where the other supermodels of her era were known for dominating the public eye, Patitz preferred a quieter life surrounded by nature, particularly wild horses and the Western lands on which they lived.

Still, she was impossibly, effortlessly chic, said Anna Wintour, Vogue's global editorial director, in a statement to the magazine. "Tatjana was always the European symbol of chic, like Romy Schneider-meets-Monica Vitti," she said.

"It is like reading Mein Kampf, in that Hitler thinks he's a great hero and you put the book down with absolute disgust. And you do put this book down with total disgust."

Readers finish Harry’s book with "disgust", journalist and author A.N. Wilson tells #TimesRadio.

Spaceport Cornwall: Virgin Orbit's statement in full after UK's space mission failed

https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2023-01-10/virgin-orbits-statement-in-full-after-uks-space-mission-failed

An investigation will be carried out after a mission to launch satellites from the UK, which would have made British space history, failed.

The attempt to launch a rocket into orbit from UK soil for the first time suffered an 'anomaly' during the flight.
Virgin Orbit's modified Boeing 747 took off from Cornwall, last night (9 January) but the rocket failed to reach orbit after a technical issue.

Virgin Orbit issued a statement early this morning (10 January) saying that the historic attempt 'ultimately fell short of reaching its target'.

The statement goes on to read: "After successfully taking off from the runway at Spaceport Cornwall – which just a few weeks ago was transformed from a mere slab of empty cement at a commercial airport to the world’s newest space launch operations centre – and travelling to the designated drop zone, Cosmic Girl, the customised 747 that serves as the LauncherOne system’s carrier aircraft, successfully released the rocket. "The rocket then ignited its engines, quickly going hypersonic and successfully reaching space.

The Bodily Delights Of Designer Anissa Kermiche's Marylebone Flat

“From a designer’s perspective, the human body is the most interesting topic ever,” says French-Algerian designer Anissa Kermiche. If you’re familiar with Anissa’s work, this statement will come as no surprise, but to the uninitiated (where have you been?), look only to her best-selling ‘Love Handles’ vase for a quick introduction. Yep, the designer’s jewellery and ceramics are unapologetic celebrations of the female form in all its voluptuous, womanly glory. But do such sensibilities carry through to her living space? We went for a nose around to find out...
