Poll: Tuberville fares better against Jones than Sessions does; Both GOP candidates hold large leads

Polling results released by an Alabama-based, nationally respected data firm on Monday show that both former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville and former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions would enter a general election battle against U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) with a sizable lead.

Sessions would garner 44.70% in his hypothetical, compared to Jones at 35.20%. Another 17.50% of respondents were undecided, and Parrish took 2.70% of the vote.

Meanwhile, Tuberville received 49.70% in his general election scenario, with Jones at 35.70%, 12.70% undecided and 1.90% for Parrish.

Comparatively, Sessions would beat Jones by 9.50%, while Tuberville would beat Jones by 14.00%.

Damn, in this environment and with Trump so awful, I was hoping Jones would have a chance...

I've been seeing a lot of posters saying "puppers" for puppies/dogs lately

Is that a new term? I honestly never heard of it until last week, but now I'm seeing it used everywhere.

CNN's Angela Rye: Washington, Jefferson Statues "Need To Come Down"

CNN's Angela Rye called for statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to come down Thursday on the network.

"American history is not all glorious... George Washington was a slave owner. We need to call slave owners out for what they are. Whether we think they were protecting American freedom or not, he wasn't protecting my freedoms," the network contributor said.

"To me, I don't care if it's a George Washington statue or Thomas Jefferson, they all need to come down," Rye concluded.

Rye's remarks came after Daily Beast editor John Avlon argued Washingon spent his life trying to unite the nation.

Dow plunges 1,500 points as U.S. coronavirus cases rise, amid Fed's grim economic outlook

Source: MarketWatch

U.S. stocks convulsed lower Thursday midday, amid signs of a resurgence of cases of the illness derived from the novel strain, and as investors digested Wednesday’s downbeat economic outlook from the Federal Reserve.

The market moves came even as the number of Americans filing for first-time jobless benefits declined again in the most recent week.

How are benchmarks performing?
The Dow US JIA was 1,481 points, 5.5%, midday Thursday, near 25,501, while the S&P 500 US:SPX gave up 148 points or 4.6% to trade near 3,044. The Nasdaq Composite US:COMP was down about 387 points, 3.9%, near 9,635, one day after charting a record above 10,000. The small-cap Russell 2000 US:RUT slid 85 points, or 5.8%, notching its worst one-day performance in 10 weeks.

On Wednesday, the Dow fell 282.31 points, or 1%, to end at 26,989.99. The S&P 500 shed 17.04 points, or 0.5%, finishing at 3,190.14. The Nasdaq climbed 66.59 points, or 0.7%, to close at 10,020.35.

Question about selling stocks and taxes

I'll use this example to show what I know: Let's say you buy $100 in stock for a company, and it rises to $1,000. That's a $900 profit. If you sell all $1,000 worth, you pay the taxes on the profit ($900), not the initial $100. Tax rates depend if they are held for a year or more, and what your bracket is. That much I know.

Now, here's what I don't know: Is it taxed right away or manually? When the stock is sold, do the taxes automatically come out? Like if you sold the $1,000 in stock ($900 profit) you had, is $1,000 cash deposited to your brokerage account, or is it like $920 (or whatever the rate is), with taxes you owe taken out? Please let it be this way. That would make it so much easier than doing it manually and remembering everything by tax day.

Various polls from CBS

Here's just a few of them, there are more in the link. What baffles me the most is that 3% of blacks think police treat blacks better than whites. WTF? Also, the 4% spread in the Presidential race is insane. Why so close after all of this? Isn't CBS reliable?

Black Protester Shot to Death Outside Omaha Bar

Source: Daily Beast

A young black protester was shot dead outside a bar in Omaha as unrest across the nation engulfed the Nebraska city—and the white bar owner was reportedly in custody.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old James Scurlock, whose father called for justice as the city braced for another night of chaos.

“Last night I lost a son, my wife lost a son, my kids lost a brother,” the grieving dad, who has the same name, told reporters at the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation Visitors Center,

“His daughter lost a father. All because he decided to protest against racism. There’s a lot of speculation and rumors about how this happened. I don’t really care to be honest. My family wants closure and peace.

Red beans and rice

Who here enjoys it? It's a famous Louisiana dish, but this Yankee loves it! I made it last night with andouille and smoked sausage, and even a small piece of pepperoni. Pork hocks were added as well. It came out nice, but put a little too much Louisiana Hot Sauce and it wasn't quite thick enough either.

Anyway, here's a pic (not mine). Eating leftovers in a little while!
