Song I'm most proud of that I've ever wrote/recorded with a group

I came up w/the chord progression a few years before I was in this band. Our singer Dave came up with lyrics overnight after I strummed the song for him 1 TIME. I was blown away.

He doesn't have the greatest voice but the lyrics are awesome, and I love the melody (I'd been trying to come up with one for years for the progression to little avail).

I play the acoustic and provide backing vocals. We had an amazing guitarist friend come in and do the slide work, he's WAY better than me at guitar lol.

It's about a widower (the titular Mr. Landers) who regularly went to his late wife's grave. The cemetery is next to a Llama Farm (or so says Dave) hence the reference.

Hope y'all like.

Pic is me showing my nephew some licks, 2022.

PS: sounds better if you click thru to YouTube rather than just listening in the thread

my heart was boiling mean
so I went to see the llamas
cuz it gets cold sometimes
when you're moving so damn fast

the jet planes froze among the sky
my glasses were the movie frame
and then I felt so shy
my spirit ripped my mind away

sometimes I go there just to find you
sometimes I arrive for no reason at all
sometimes I swear I see your footprints
smell the dandelions
and sometimes
I wander til I get there
and then that's where I fall

the simple pirouettes
your shadow's like a tree branch
the car radio released a waterfall
I'm warm but all alone

I caught the last glimpse of heaven's slideshow
and took it in like your hand in mine
I just came up with stones
and the credits ran their course

sometimes I go there just to find you
sometimes I arrive for no reason at all
sometimes I swear I see your footprints
smell the dandelions
and sometimes
I wander til I get there
and then that's where I fall

Mr. L's Spotify playlist for the new Jason Isbell record ... which is KILLER!

Yeah I know it's presumptuous of me to reorder, but I like this track list better than how it's laid out originally

When I excitedly play it for my lady tonight, this will be the order

New Jason Isbell - Ode to Justin Townes Earle - Killer Song!

Okay so it's not called that but it's 'known' that's who it's about. They made Harlem River Blues together.

I got a picture of us back when we were close
Before we had somebody picking out our clothes
But you always dressed in your Sunday best
Even when we didn't have nowhere to go
I got a picture of us playing in a bar
And your shirt cost more than your guitar
But you played so heavy and you always let me sing a couple
Even though you were the star

I was the worse of the two of us
But Rex's Blues wasn't through with us
You were bound for glory and grown to die
Oh, but why wasn't I?
Why wasn't I?

Saw a picture of you laughing with your child
And I hope she will remember how you smiled
But she probably wasn't old enough, the night somebody sold you stuff
That left you on the bathroom tiles
Got a picture of you dying in my mind
With some ghosts you couldn't bear to leave behind
But I can hear your voice ring, as you snap another B-string
And you finish off the set with only five
And for a minute there, you're still alive

I was the worse of the two of us
But Rex's Blues wasn't through with us
You were bound for glory and grown to die
Oh, but why wasn't I?
Why wasn't I?

It's not up to me to forgive you
For the nights that your love had to live through
Now you'll never need to look me in the eye
I am the last of the two of us
But the Fort Worth blues isn't through with us
You've traveled beyond the Great Divide

Oh, but why haven't I?
Why haven't I?

On Weathervanes, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Keep Getting Better as the World Gets Worse

Coming out Friday peeps!

Jason produced himself, and it's getting EXCELLENT reviews.

All the 4 singles pre-released I liked better than anything on Reunions other than Dreamsicle.

Isbell and his backing band return with 13 emotionally charged, impressively performed songs

But while the writing on Weathervanes is carefully crafted and wildly impressive, what sets the record apart in a discography full of tattoo-worthy couplets is the contributions of The 400 Unit. They’ve undoubtedly been an integral part of Isbell’s past few efforts, but the band has never sounded so locked into an album’s singular vision.

Question for others who use Grubhub and have the free delivery through their Amazon Prime membership

Did you recently get email saying your GrubHub+ (or whatever it's called) has been extended an additional year, free of charge?

i will not take these things for granted

one of my all-time favorite songs from a record with the same stature ... not a bad song on it, and a ton of great ones.

Holy balls, Blues Traveler (John Popper in particular) still sound SO FREAKING GOOD I'm astounded

They're coming to the Marquee in Tempe here shortly, with co-headliners Big Head Todd and The Monsters (who I also absolutely love) and we were contemplating whether we wanna drop $100 each for GA tickets so we thought ... lets see how BT sounds these days, and came across this from 2022, and we were both FLOORED

FF to 8:10 mark to catch 'Hook' ... and think about how freaking hard it would be to pull off what Popper is doing at his age here ... the harmonica solo and scatting part that follows ... dude is a stone cold badass. Like, you should NOT still sound this freaking amazing at 55 yo. I'd almost say he's even better than when the song came out when he was in his late 20's.

And the band? NAILS.

my morning jacket - golden (live bonnaroo 2004) if you've never heard this song

after you hear it you'll be like ... wow how TF have I not heard this song?

So, so good ... totally timeless classic could've come out any time after about 1966 I'd say ...
