cyclonefence's JournalA Really Bad Series and a Really Good One on Amazon
"Absentia" is a real stinker. Maddening. Totally hated it. I love serial killer stories, and there was (sort of) a serial killer in this one, but mostly it was about stupid senseless shit, and poorly done at that. Made in Bulgaria or Albania or some such place, but in English. I still haven't found my disbelief--I had to suspend it so many times it's gone missing, maybe for good.
On the other hand, I'm totally loving "Sophia" made in Russia, in Russian with subtitles, about the second wife of Ivan I. If you love Alexander Nevsky, you'll love this. Plus the costumes are to die for.
You have to pay extra for so many Amazon offerings that I usually skip it--I have Prime mostly for the free shipping--and go right to Netflix, but Sophia is included, and I'm glad I stumbled on it.
If Trump gets his wish about a military parade
I hope women in pussy hats will turn out in even greater numbers all along the parade route. I'd love it if we concealed our hats and then at a pre-arranged time all put them on at once.
All these jobs
Why aren't Republicans parading folks who have jobs now as a result of their tax cuts for the rich? All these numbers--so many new jobs--but I don't know anyone who got a job. Can't they line up some of these newly-employed people and let them talk about the wonderful new jobs Trump has created?
Something I don't understand about the DACA debate
is that while everyone--democrats and republicans and the vast majority of American people--want a solution that safeguards the status of the DACA children, it is being posited as something the Democrats are being offered for use as a bargaining chip in discussions about purely partisan subjects. Why is it a given that Democrats are the only ones interested in protecting DACA, when *everyone* is interested in protecting DACA?
If Trump were to have Mueller fired
what would happen? I keep reading about this action provoking a "constitutional crisis," but I don't understand how that works. I know that getting rid of Mueller doesn't get rid of the investigation, but how is that a line Trump wouldn't dare to cross? Does anyone think the repubs in congress would do anything about it? I don't.
Has Everybody Seen Pauly Shor as Stephen Miller?
https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/pauly-shore-mocks-stephen-millers-statue-of-liberty-presser-w496193I can't go to the march today
but I had 9 pussy hats I'd planned to take to give out. So I drove over to the train station, figuring I'd sit there waiting for someone who looked like she was going to the march, and I'd ask her to take them for me. I thought I was early and that I'd have to sit there for a long time, so I brought a book. I pulled into the lot to find it about half full--on a Saturday; this is a commuter line--and cars of people getting out, some with pink hats. I drove up to the closest one and asked her if she'd take my hats in, and of course she said yes. But the important thing is--or things are: There were lots of people from my area outside Philly going to march and the people who didn't have pussy hats were wearing pink bandannas folded over and worn on their foreheads, like sweatbands.
I hope we'll see a pink tsunami today.
If Trump is stuck in DC
over the weekend, I shiver in delight thinking of how hard it's going to be to shield his eyes from the marchers. Mar-a-lago is much easier to block off from the world.
