Mismatched!

Could you do this for 20 minutes?

I don't know why she made the drive. Should have stopped the car, got out, opened the passenger door and swept the thing out using some object. That distraction could easily have caused an accident.

Want to live longer? Get a dog!

The benefits that come with owning a dog are clear-- physical activity, support, companionship -- but owning a dog could literally be saving your life

Dog ownership is associated with a reduced risk for cardiovascular disease and death, finds a new Swedish study published Friday in the journal Scientific Reports.

For people living alone, owning a dog can decrease their risk of death by 33% and their risk of cardiovascular related death by 36%, when compared to single individuals without a pet, according to the study. Chances of a heart attack were also found to be 11% lower.

Multi-person household owners also saw benefits, though to a lesser extent. Risk of death among these dog owners fell by 11% and their chances of cardiovascular death were 15% lower. But their risk of a heart attack was not reduced by owning a dog.

Because there are so many Jeopardy fans here...

Congrats to Alex Trebek, who was installed as an Officer of the Order of Canada today, receiving a citation that recognizes his on-camera role as the host of Jeopardy! as well as his off-camera work as a champion of geographic literacy in the U.S. and Canada and his commitment to multiple educational, environmental and humanitarian causes. He's seen here receiving his award from Canada's new Governor General, Julie Payette.

Jehovah's Witnesses withholding child abuse documents

Sickening.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses’ refusal to hand over internal documents detailing alleged child sexual abuse just got more expensive.

A California appeals court last week upheld an order for the religion to pay $4,000 for each day it does not turn over the documents. The tab currently stands at $2 million. The ruling stems from a case in San Diego, where Osbaldo Padron sued the Jehovah’s Witnesses for failing to warn congregants that a child abuser was in their midst.

Padron, a former Jehovah’s Witness, was sexually abused as a child by an adult member of his congregation named Gonzalo Campos. Campos confessed to sexually abusing seven children.

During that time, leaders at the Jehovah’s Witnesses world headquarters in New York – known as the Watchtower – knew that Campos had abused children, according to court documents. Yet they continued to promote him to higher positions of responsibility in his congregation and took no action to prevent further abuse, the documents show.

Preferred method of payment?

I was surprised to see an article today stating that half of purchases made in Canada are paid for in cash. I rarely have bills in my wallet anymore. Almost all my transactions are done by credit card. It's so easy with the "tap" feature for smaller purchases. Plus the credit card we have provides air travel rewards, so we get major discounts on flights each year (I'd say "free" flights but we do pay fees and taxes) and by paying off the balance each month, we don't get hit with high interest rates.

Do you still use cash much these days?
