The Sanders Campaign and It's Economic Projections Have Crossed Into Neverland

Kevin Drum has an article up, with graph, that shows how incredibly unrealistic the Sanders campaign’s economic projections are and before you summarily dismiss Mr. Drum, he actually mentions in the article he’s gone easy on Sanders because he likes his vision.

I'm sure we’ll see a ‘No we can't’ or two posted in comments.

Gerald Friedman is predicting a decade growth we haven't seen since WWII. These projections are tied into funding Sanders Medicare-For-All plan. Mr. Friedman has been used at every turn by the Sanders and his supporters to give credence to his economic proposals.

These projections are not rooted in reality. Some highlights below, from Mr. Drum.

How Hillary Clinton Won Harlem

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/02/how-hillary-clinton-won-harlem.html#

“I thought we’d get that talk from Bernie, but it was Hillary,” the woman said as she took her seat in the restaurant. The man with her nodded his head in agreement, and then they sat in silence, attending to the world in their cell phones.

“Hey, soror,” a woman half-shouted a few minutes later, as she scooped food into her Styrofoam takeout box. The seated woman looked up, smiled, and responded, “Oh, hey, soror, you see Hillary?”

“She was real good, right,” the woman making her plate said, now at a different food station. All three nodded their heads, almost causing me to join in even though I was not a part of the conversation. All of this took place at Manna’s, the self-anointed “Best Soul Food Restaurant in the Village of Harlem.” I religiously get a four-vegetable plate there whenever I go to an event at the Schomburg Center, the New York Public Library’s hub for black culture, which sits on the corner of 135th and Malcolm X.

The venue is having a big week. On Monday it was revealed as the inspiration of this week’s New Yorker cover art by painter Kadir Nelson (work titled Schomburg Center, Harlem, New York). On Tuesday it was the site of a Hillary Clinton speech, advertised a day earlier as an “Address on Breaking Down Barriers for African-Americans.”

PPP polling in 10 of the 12 early primary states found Hillary ahead solidly in most states and her lead among African American voters is massive.

Some thoughts and highlights below.

New Public Policy Polling surveys of the 12 states that will hold Democratic primaries for President between March 1st and 8th, conducted on behalf of American Family Voices, find Hillary Clinton leading the way in 10 of 12, with double digit leads in 9 of them. Bernie Sanders has an overwhelming lead in his home state of Vermont and also leads in Massachusetts. The race is close in Oklahoma where Clinton is ahead by just 2 points, but she has double digit leads in the other 9 states that will have primaries that week:

When Maureen Dowd Lost Hillary Clinton

http://crooksandliars.com/2016/02/when-maureen-dowd-lost-hillary-clinton

In the latest chapter in Maureen Dowd's never-ending story of the Clintons, "When Hillary Clinton Killed Feminism", the long-time New York Times columnist builds her case in the only way Maureen seems to know how: by putting words into Hillary's mouth and thoughts into Hillary's head.

Even after all these years, Maureen is still trying to invent Hillary the Terrible, Hillary the Prevaricator, Hillary the Shallow. And every time she's sure she's got it, every time Dowd writes the perfect scenario, in which her character lives up to her previous, masterful buildup, Hillary the Unpredictable takes off in another direction.

And Dowd fumes! Even on the printed page you can see Dowd fuming. Hillary is HER invention! HER antagonist! Who the hell does she think she is?

Hillary News & Views 2.17: Harlem Speech, Supreme Court, the "Obama Effect"

Today’s Hillary News & Views begins with coverage of Clinton’s speech in Harlem yesterday, along with some coverage of her meeting with Civil Rights leaders that same day.

Vox reports:

Clinton's speech touched on many topics about race. She discussed mass incarceration. She unveiled her plan to undo the school-to-prison pipeline. She called on the country to help her end segregation in schools.

But there was a particularly powerful moment in which Clinton called on all Americans, white included, and particularly Democrats to help eliminate systemic racism. She said:

“We Democrats have a special obligation. If we're serious about our commitment to the poor, to those who need some help, including African Americans, if we continue to ask black people to vote for us, we cannot minimize the realities of the lives they lead or take their concerns for granted.

“You know, you can't just show up at election time and say the right things and think that's enough. We can't start building relationships a few weeks before a vote. We have to demonstrate a sustained commitment to building opportunity, creating prosperity, and righting wrongs — not just every two or four years, not just when the cameras are on and people are watching, but every single day.

“So here's what I ask of you: Hold me accountable. Hold every candidate accountable. What we say matters, but what we do matters more. And you deserve leaders who will do whatever it takes to tear down all the barriers holding you back and then replace them with those ladders of opportunity that every American deserves to have.

“I'm also asking all Americans to join in that effort. As Cornell Brooks, the new head of the NAACP, said in our meeting this morning, none of this is a "they" problem; it's a "we" problem. And all of us have to admit that. And you know what? It is not an urban problem. It's an American problem.

“Ending systemic racism requires contributions from all of us, especially those of us who haven't experienced it ourselves.”
